1. What these terms cover
These terms apply to the Mittelware desktop application (the “App”) and to this website. Our Privacy Policy explains how data is handled and forms part of these terms.
2. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the App on devices you own or control, for developing, testing, debugging and inspecting software and network traffic. You may not, except where the law allows despite this restriction: sell, rent or sublicense the App; redistribute it other than by linking to the downloads page; remove proprietary notices; or reverse engineer or decompile it. Open-source components included in the App remain under their own licences.
3. Responsible use
Mittelware lets you read and change network traffic. That is powerful, and it comes with responsibility. You agree that you will:
- Only inspect or modify traffic from devices, applications and accounts that you own, or that you have explicit permission to test.
- Not use the App to intercept other people’s communications, to attack systems, or to bypass security controls or access restrictions you are not authorised to bypass.
- Comply with all applicable laws, including those on privacy, wiretapping and computer misuse, and with the terms of services whose traffic you inspect.
- Keep captured data, which may include credentials and personal information, secure and handle it as the law and your obligations require.
4. The Mittelware certificate
To inspect HTTPS traffic, the App creates a certificate authority on your device and asks you to trust it. You are responsible for deciding whether to trust it, and you should only do so on devices you control. Anyone with access to the certificate’s private key on your device could impersonate websites to that device, so protect your user account and the App’s data folder accordingly. You can remove the certificate from your operating system’s trust store at any time.
5. Updates
The App can check for and install updates. We may change, add or remove features over time, and we may stop offering the App or parts of it.
6. Feedback
If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them without obligation to you. Please don’t send confidential information.
7. No warranty
The App and website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. The App changes network traffic and system proxy settings. Rules you create can break applications or alter data, and we don’t guarantee that the App will be error-free or compatible with every application or environment.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits or business, arising from your use of the App or website. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
9. Ending your licence
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. Your licence ends automatically if you breach these terms, and we may suspend access to downloads or updates in that case.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the App or website after a change means you accept the updated terms.
